Inner Freedom

What is something you let go of and then everything worked out?

I let go of the stories I grew up with that told me I couldn’t afford and didn’t deserve luxury travel, nice things, any form of self-care and most importantly, that having a lofty dream for yourself was frivolous & self-indulgent. GAWD! How yucky.

NOW, I lead amazing and transformative yoga retreats all over the world, I travel in style with my family, and I’ve manifested a yoga studio and healing sanctuary in my own backyard where all my programs and classes sell out and my life is full and abundant in all the ways because that’s literally what happens when you break the binds of self-imposed limitation.

It took time to RELEASE those stories though. Years, it took. It’s funny how long it takes for you to even realize they’re holding you back. And then you hit a wall where you start to feel stuck, or uninspired or unhappy, and you start to listen to those voices (the ones that aren’t yours) that you’ve heard throughout your life & you finally begin waking up to the fact that those are THEIR stories, not yours! 💥 And you reflect on all the ways you’ve allowed other people’s voices/stories/experiences to limit you. And you reflect on all the ways those limitations have shown up throughout your life, in the choices you’ve made or didn’t make. And usually, when we’re in that tight grip of it, we aren’t proud of how we show up in our relationships and reactions versus responses to the world in general. We can feel it in the body. That’s the breaking point -that’s the time to jump off the cliff and release the stories that keep us small. Then the whole world begins to open up for you in a way you could have never imagined was possible.

Release on a grand scale can only begin through a practice of release on the small scale.

We can find release in every small moment of every day when we feel the grip of uncertainty and fear come up. We can choose. We can always choose how we respond to any given circumstance and when we set intention to stay in flow as much as possible, our responses begin to soften and letting go begins to get easier and easier until it becomes more your go-to response versus the judgment and discontented response.

And we all feel the difference between resistance and flow in our physical bodies.

I reached a point where I preferred the expansive feeling in my body over the tight gut-grip feeling.

Prana is our life force energy and every time we go into a fight/flight/judgement/aversion response, we limit that flow. Prana needs space to reach its optimal capacity and if our breath catches and stops each time we’re triggered, we are halting that life-force energy and literally shortening our lives in the process.

Finding inner freedom consistency and with grace is a practice and is possible for everyone.

Some ways to begin such a practice:

  1. Stop multitasking. Be more present. Do one thing at a time and notice as you’re doing it
  2. Stop holding your breath. Notice your breathing throughout the day & take more deep breaths whenever possible
  3. Stop letting life happen to you. Set intentions daily, so the moments of your day don’t carry you away to places you don’t want to be (in your head, your work, your life)

Some ways to enhance your practice:

  1. Daily pranayama practice (try my course: Breathe)
  2. Work with Garuda Mudra for inner freedom. (use in meditation and/or in your asana yoga practice)
  3. Daily abundance and gratitude meditation
